Excel Academy of Cosmetology is located at the Northeast corner of Rochester Road and Square
Lake. Our 8,000 square foot one story facility is surrounded by major shopping areas. Our
contemporary 47 station clinic with pedicure stations includes a separate state of the art esthetics
area. The Academy is furnished with the latest instructional equipment and class sizes are kept
small to ensure an optimum learning environment.

Two Separate schedules are available for the cosmetology course.

Full Time: Classes begin five times per year. Classes meet Monday through Saturday from 8:30 am to 4:30 PM. Your attendance then moves to Tuesday through Saturday from 8:30 am to 4:30 PM for the balance of your training. Full Time: The instructors course of study is a 500 clock hour program which may be completed on a full time basis in 3 months or a part time basis in 5 months. Course work includes an overall review of cosmetology, instruction in course outlining and development, assisting the clinic, record keeping and teaching classes under the direct supervision of our instructors.

Class starting dates are the same as the cosmetology class: September 2, 2008 • November 12, 2008.

Part Time: Classes begin 3 times this year. Classes meet Monday through Thursday from 5:00 PM to 9:30 PM and Saturday from 8:30 am to 4:40 PM You may submit an e-mail application by clicking on the enrollment link above or you can obtain an application for enrollment at the school Tuesday through Friday or by calling 248-828-9972.

Class starting dates are September 2, 2008. Enrollment in the Instructor's course is very limited.

Students are responsible for applying and paying for their state board examination after they complete their course of study.

  • Excel Scholarships: A $250 scholarship will be awarded to any current year graduating high
    school senior in a traditional school with these honors - Valedictorian, Salutatorian, top 10%
    of graduating class or a member of the National Honor Society.

  • Applicants to all programs must be at least 16 years of age, have a high school diploma or have a general education development certificate.

  • Applicants to the instructor training program must hold a current cosmetology license issued by the state regulatory agency, and have a high school diploma or have a general education development certificate.

  • Applicant to the instructor training program, who have not been active in the cosmetology profession within the last two years, will be required to take a written and practical test covering all areas of cosmetology prior to being enrolled. A passing grade of 75% is required. An applicant who fails the exam may repeat the exam 30 days from the date of the original exam.

Class sizes are restricted to help keep a student/instructor ratio which will insure maximum assistance to each student. Students may start enrolling for any class 13 months prior to the class start date. Enrollments will be accepted up to one week prior to the class start date, or until the class becomes full, whichever comes first. Therefore, we encourage early registration if you wish to begin with a specific class. A registration fee paid at the time you sign a contract will guarantee you a seat in the upcoming class.
