	Excel Academy of Cosmetology Merrillville Campus is located on Broadway at 80th Place, in the North West corner of the street. Our 5,900 square foot one-story building has ample parking facilities and is close to major shopping areas. Our 40 station clinic is spacious and is well lighted. The building is furnished with state-of-the-art instructional equipment and class sizes are kept small to ensure an optimum learning environment.

......Cosmetology Class Schedule and Cost ( Merrillville ) top of page There is only one schedule available for the cosmetology course and we accept only 12 students. Full Time: Classes begin five times per year. Classes meet Tuesday through Saturday from 8:00 am to 4:30 PM for 9 1/2 months. The registration fee is due at the time of enrollment. A monthly payment plan is available for the remaining balance. We also have the Sallie Mae Career Loan which is based on your credit. Course work includes an overall review of cosmetology, instruction in Course outlining and development, assisting the clinic, record keeping and teaching classes under the direct supervision of our instructors. Overtime charges will be assessed beyond the 8% allowed absences, at a cost of $5.00 per hour, billed upon reaching the date when the course was due to be complete. ......Finance Options ( Merrillville ) top of page Cash Payment Plan SLM Financing Excel Scholarships: A $250 scholarship will be awarded to any current year graduating high school senior in a traditional school with these honors - Valedictorian, Salutatorian, top 10% of graduating class or a member of the National Honor Society.
......Admission Requirements ( Merrillville ) top of page Applicants to all programs must be at least 16 years of age, have a high school diploma or have a general education development certificate. Applicants to the instructor training program must hold a current cosmetology license issued by the state regulatory agency, and have a high school diploma or have a general education development certificate. Applicants to the instructor training program, who have not been active in the cosmetology profession within the last two years, will be required to take a written and practical test covering all areas of cosmetology prior to being enrolled. A passing grade of 75% is required. An applicant who fails the exam may repeat the exam 30 days from the date of the original exam. Class sizes are restricted to help keep a student/instructor ratio which will insure maximum assistance to each student. Students may start enrolling for any class 6 months prior to the starting date of the class. Enrollments will be accepted up to one week prior to the class start date or until the class becomes full, whichever becomes first. Therefore, we encourage early registration if you wish to begin with a specific class. A registration fee paid at the time you sign a contract will guarantee you a seat in the upcoming class.
