Excel Academy of Cosmetology is located on 29th St. between Breton and Radcliff on the north side
of the street. Excel is easily accessible from 28th St. or the East Beltline. City bus stops are located
one block east or west on 29th St. Our 8900 square foot one story facility has ample parking and is
surrounded by major shopping areas. Our contemporary 48 station clinic is spacious and well lighted
with separate manicure and pedicure stations. Our junior room has 16 fully equipped stations.

Full Time: Classes begin five times per year and can be completed in 10 1/2 months. Classes meet Tuesday through Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 PM and Saturday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. You may submit an e-mail application by clicking on the enrollment link above or you can obtain an application for enrollment at the school Tuesday through Friday or by calling 616-975-7778. Students may start enrolling for any class 13 months prior to the class start date. After September 27, 2008 classes will meet Tuesday and Wednesday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Thursday from 12:30 pm to 8:30 pm, Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm and Saturday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Class starting dates are November 11, 2008 .

The enrollment fee is due at the time of enrollment. A monthly payment plan is available for the
remaining balance. Overtime charges will be assessed beyond the 8% allowed absences, at a cost of
$5.00 per hour, billed upon reaching the date when the course was due to be complete.

* An examination fee to take the state exam is payable by the student upon graduation. A license fee
is payable to the State of Michigan by the student upon passing the state exam. The examination and
license fees are subject to change.

  • Excel Scholarships: A $250 scholarship will be awarded to any current year graduating high
    school senior in a traditional school with these honors - Valedictorian, Salutatorian, top 10%
    of graduating class or a member of the National Honor Society.

  • Applicants to all programs must be at least 16 years of age, have a high school diploma or have a general education development certificate.

  • Applicants to the instructor training program must hold a current cosmetology license issued by the state regulatory agency, and have a high school diploma or have a general education development certificate.

  • Applicant to the instructor training program, who have not been active in the cosmetology profession within the last two years, will be required to take a written and practical test covering all areas of cosmetology prior to being enrolled. A passing grade of 75% is required. An applicant who fails the exam may repeat the exam 30 days from the date of the original exam.

Class sizes are restricted to help keep a student/instructor ratio which will insure maximum assistance to each student. Students may start enrolling for any class 13 months prior to the start date. Enrollments will be accepted up to one week prior to the class start date, or until the class becomes full, whichever comes first. Therefore, we encourage early registration if you wish to begin with a specific class. A registration fee paid at the time you sign a contract will guarantee you a seat in the upcoming class.
